The Bowen Technique
Bowen therapy is a soft tissue remedial therapy that involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs to move over muscle, ligament, tendon and fascia in various parts of the body. This therapy can be effective to help relieve everyday stresses and revitalise the whole person.
Each Bowen therapy session varies according to the particular problems of the client. By focusing on the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back, shoulders and the neck, a sense of wellbeing can be achieved, helping relaxation, aiding sleep – helping to remove everyday stress and anxiety that can make us feel under-par or prevent us functioning at our optimum.
Only by experiencing this incredible technique will you start to understand and believe the potential benefits for you!

The Bowen technique was developed in the 1950’s by the late Tom Bowen in Australia. He became a celebrated therapist, regularly treating over 13,000 patients annually. In 1974 he invited Oswald Rentsch to study with him and in 1986 Oswald Rentsch and his wife Elaine began to teach the technique in its original form founding the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. Carole Justice is trained by the Bowen Association UK, part of the Bowen Therapy Academy’s worldwide teaching academy and regulating association.
Even though there is no force or manipulation, Bowen may benefit clients within a small number of treatments even for long-standing complaints, traumatic injury or chronic illness. Clients attending Carole’s Bowen Clinics often come with conditions such as: –
Digestive & Bowel Conditions
Knee, Hamstring, Ankle & Foot Problems
Nausea & Infant Colic
Carpal Tunnel, RSI
Pregnancy & Fertility Problems
Menstrual & Hormonal Problems
Joint & Muscle Problems
Sports & Accident Injuries
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME
Groin pain & pelvic tilt
Wellbeing/Re-alignment & Health
Stress & relaxation
During the therapy there are frequent periods of rest where the therapist will leave the room allowing the client’s body to respond, making subtle adjustments that initiate and direct the bodies healing. Clients can be treated either in underwear or through loosely fitting clothes.A Bowen session may start a cascade of beneficial changes continuing over a period of several days. Clients should not apply other manipulative therapies during this time as it can interrupt the body’s response to Bowen and undermines the effectiveness of the treatment received.
